"Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry... When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time." Luke 4:1-2, 13. Today's Gospel lesson, and the verses for today's sermon, give a comforting answer to the question, "What does Jesus know about my temptations?" As a true human being, Jesus did not make full use of the power and glory that were his as God. He knew how it felt to be hungry and thirsty and sad, and he knows what it feels like to be tempted. When the devil tempts us to forsake God for the sake of fleeting earthly pleasures and treasures, let's look to Jesus, the priceless treasure and know that his is our true pleasure.
Mission Statement of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church: It is the will of God: That we will all be his witnesses to spread the Good News that Jesus our Savior brought us peace with God through the forgiveness of sins for all people. That we proclaim the Law and Gospel as revealed in Holy Scriptures to lead all people to repent of sin and to believe in Jesus, who died for our sins and rose to give us eternal life. That we be strengthened in faith and Christian living by worship, communion, continuing instruction, prayer, and fellowship to be better stewards and witnesses.
