Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:36-38. These words of Jesus, in which he tells us not to judge, are often misunderstood and are made to mean that we should never say that anyone or anything is wrong. This interpretation is particularly destructive when it is applied to the area of Christian doctrine: when people say that we should never say that any religion is false because "Jesus told us not to judge." So today, under the gracious guidance of the Holy Spirit through his Holy Word, we will see that the command of Jesus not to judge 1) is not an absolute, unconditional command; and 2) must be understood in context.
Mission Statement of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church: It is the will of God: That we will all be his witnesses to spread the Good News that Jesus our Savior brought us peace with God through the forgiveness of sins for all people. That we proclaim the Law and Gospel as revealed in Holy Scriptures to lead all people to repent of sin and to believe in Jesus, who died for our sins and rose to give us eternal life. That we be strengthened in faith and Christian living by worship, communion, continuing instruction, prayer, and fellowship to be better stewards and witnesses.
