Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is not envious. It does not boast or become conceited. It is not indecent. It is not selfish. it is not irritable. it does not plan to hurt anyone. It does not delight in wrongdoing but is happy with the truth. It bears everything, believes everything, hopes for everything, endures everything. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. You and I might flatter ourselves to think that, on our good days, we might be willing to "walk the long walk" for a friend, or for someone who kindles our compassion. But to do it for someone who has hurt us, or disrespected us, or humiliated us? That's something else entirely. Our inability reminds us how far short you and I fall when it comes to God's command to love. That's why we need Jesus. Jesus walked the long walk in our place. He suffered and died for our every self-seeking moment. Because he did, he has secured for each of us a permanent pardon for eternal death.
Mission Statement of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church: It is the will of God: That we will all be his witnesses to spread the Good News that Jesus our Savior brought us peace with God through the forgiveness of sins for all people. That we proclaim the Law and Gospel as revealed in Holy Scriptures to lead all people to repent of sin and to believe in Jesus, who died for our sins and rose to give us eternal life. That we be strengthened in faith and Christian living by worship, communion, continuing instruction, prayer, and fellowship to be better stewards and witnesses.
